A rare revival of of the 1963 Broadway musical 110 in the Shade ran at the Ye Olde Rose and Crown pub theatre in Walthamstow, from 9 to 28 May 2017.
Featuring a book by N. Richard Nash, music by Harvey Schmidt and lyrics by Tom Jones it is based on N. Richard Nash’s 1954 play The Rainmaker and hasn’t been seen in London since a concert performance in 1999.
“The show focuses on the unmarried Lizzie Curry living in a small western town besieged by a long drought. Lizzie is dealing with another type of drought: her love life. Intelligent yet plain, she is worried that she will soon become an old maid with no one to love her. When a charismatic man named Starbuck arrives and claims the ability to make rain, Lizzie believes he is a con man with no abilities whatsoever. Little does she know that this man will change her life forever.”
This new production was directed by Randy Smartnick with musical direction by Aaron Clingham and choreography by Kate McPhee.
